Lawfield School Council
Lawfield Beautification

Lawfield parent council applied for and received a $1000 grant through Metro's green apple project in spring 2010.  These funds are to spend on beautifying our school yard while creating a natural learning space.

A beautification committee was formed and we have planned a native garden and outdoor classroom seating near the main entrance of the school.
Why native plants?

-Native plants have adapted to our climate over thousands of years, they are easy to grow and maintain.
-Native plants provide food and habitat to insects, birds and mammals.
-They are beautiful!

The following five species have been chosen for the garden because they are easy to grow perennials that thrive in dry conditions with at least six hours of direct sun a day.  Plants will be purchased in 10 cm. pots, they will establish themselves quickly and bloom this year.  Plants will be arranged in the garden by height, highest near the building.  The garden will be at ground level with mulch for ground cover.
*these plans have been submitted to the site supervisor for approval*

After approval a date will be set for planting the garden and to weed & mulch the existing trees & shrubs on the school grounds.  Hope you will all help in making Lawfield Beautiful.
